Year 5 Visit from the Police
Detective Inspector Jon Vogel working with the children
Year 5 were treated to a fantastic and fascinating morning of Law and Order on Friday 7 November.
Detective Inspector Jon Vogel, father of year 6 pupil Skye, came in and gave the children an amazing journey through the history of the police. The children saw old-style uniforms and artefacts from the 19th century to the present day, which included a 180-year-old police baton!
The morning was part of the children’s Crime and Punishment topic where learning started in Ancient Times and is now building up to modern times.
DI Vogel, from Surrey Police, showed the children crime solving skills and even had year 5s cracking their own shop-thieving crime using fingerprints.
Sussex Police Constable Vicky Jones was also on hand to tell the children about crime solving, and had help from former Hove Junior pupil Jamal Robinson, now a community police officer in Brighton.
Jamal was dressed in full riot gear and even had to protect himself from an onslaught of tennis balls by using his defence shield!
All the children agreed it was a superb morning, filled not only lots of fun but also lots of learning.
