The Windrush Generation: ‘Answering the Call For Help'

During our summer topic, we will be learning about the Windrush Generation who answered the call for help to rebuild Britain followed World War II. Our key texts for this term are: ‘Windrush Child’ by John Agard (a beautifully illustrated poetry book) and ‘Windrush Child’ by Benjamin Zephaniah (a story following a young boy’s arrival in British aboard HMT Empire from Jamaica and his experiences adjusting to life in Britain. Throughout this term, the children will learn about the different Caribbean islands, why people chose to migrate to Britain, what life was like for the Windrush Generation in London, and how British culture has been enriched by people from the Caribbean.
